Donald J. Amann, 77, passed away at his residence in California, KY, on March 30, 2012. Don was born and raised in Covington, KY. In his childhood he played knothole baseball for the Lewisburg Sluggers, in 1944 he and his team were Kenton County Champs, and in 1945 they were Montgomery Coal Class C Champs. Don's livelihood as a brick mason lasted until 1988 when he retired and moved to Siesta Key, FL, in 1989 where he lived for 12 years. He was a franchise owner with his brother Jim, of the Charles Chip home delivery Company. He built their first home in 1957 on Orchard Lane, Highland Heights, KY, added on as family grew, put in a tennis court where the Annual Family 4th of July Tennis Tournament was held. His Family was everything to him- Taking care of everyone, fixing their problems, he was very hard working. His hobbies were woodworking, drawing, socializing, camping, traveling, coaching his sons through Knothole baseball and also coaching grade school basketball. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Friendly Aces Men's Club since its formation in 1955 at the Standard Club in Covington, KY, where members played ball, and held social events, they built a club camp in Morningview, KY, and the club is still together today. On February 17, 2010, Don was inducted into the Northern KY, Sports Hall of Fame for baseball, and in 2010 was also honored as one of the original Basketball Coaches at the 50th Anniversary of the St. Joes Cold Spring Bluejay Classic Tournament. He was married for 56 years to his wife Nancy C. Rose whom he is survived by along with his sons, Joseph Amann, Tim (Julie) Amann, Scott (Sue) Amann, daughters, Linda Meister, and Theresa (Todd) Tierney, brother, David Amann, sister, Jean Warken, 10 Grandchildren and 12 Great children. A visitation will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in California, KY, from 9:30-10:30am on Wednesday, April 4. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30am. A reception will be held immediately following the mass at the Church. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery that afternoon. Cooper Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
